Yes, I know this has been out for awhile, and I did download and watch it when it first came out, but I was watching it again the other day, and I just have to say something about how AMAZING it is. I'm not downplaying any other runs on M2K2 (they are all very good), but I think that they all pale in comparison to this run.

I mean, her first segment, not counting ceres station, is 22 freakin minutes long. In that whole part, I saw hardly any mistakes (as in, less than 2 seconds of them) , and she did every trick first try, with a ton of added mockballs. Every part after that is 11-18 mins long, and they are all perfect. I pitty the fool who tries to break this record (on a cart) . I mean, she's freakin sess playing a cart !

This run is awesome, and I really don't want any of us to forget it's amazingness. Thank you scarlet for recording this amazing run, and thanks nate/radix (or whoever did it) for putting it up.

(cue scarlet disagreeing with everything)

yeah, i think that it's like the classic run of m2k2 or something. her dvd has sold more than all the other dvds combined (only filled one order to date that didn't include hers iirc), and her run is always the first to be recaptured when new capture technology/methodology surfaces.

actually, on her suggestion, when i redo her dvd in a few days with the new higher quality method, i was going to add 'extras,' like particularly hilarious screwups, alternate boss fights (crocomire and golden torizo), etc, so that people could see more of the original material. do you think this is a good idea, and if so, should i relabel #003 on the dvd page as 'special edition' when i rerelease it, or would that make me look like an ass to make everyone rebuy the dvd to get everything?

keep in mind that the new, higher quality (vol 3) dvds were not possible at the time i did vol 1 originally, so it's not like i was planning to redo it from the beginning or something.
Heck yeah you should!  Even my cheapskate-ish self might purchase it then.  Maybe.  :P

Shouldn't you pay some of it to Red?
the theory is that the profits, if any, from dvd sales (there have been none thus far) would pay for additional equipment/server add-ons/insurance that i won't have to get a real job and lose my ability to do this work.
Just to chime in, I would totally buy a version with extras.  I'd love to see some of the other attempts and alternate versions, which is sort of why I started watching these to begin with.  That would definitely be an (added) incentive to buy it, and any others you did that with.
Too many fangirls to count
I would buy it.
I wouldn't...so long as I have the run itself free to download right off the internet...

Let me finish:...that has horrible quality but DVD has teh ub3r quality...
I agree with Roxinos. I don't have money to burn and if I did, I wouldn't be spending it on something of slightly higher quality than can be downloaded for free. No offense to Nate or Scarlet or any of the speed runners in M2k2, but there are more important things I either need to or want to spend money on.

Compared to almost every other run here, my run was a rush job.  Radix took 3 months for his 1:37, Trebor took 10? months for his 22%, Kip took 8? for his 1:04, Pirate109 took 62 years for his 1:30, and sparky took I dunno for MP1 and his 23%'s and it's been 5 months since MP2 came out and he's still working on that.  Nor any idea about smilingjack's single segs on MP1.

My :55 took 3 weeks.  Rush job.

Says the guy that did a Fusion single segment any% in 0:51. :P

Re-watch the room before the Gravity Suit, the X-Ray Scope room, middle Norfair, a couple parts in Lower Norfair, and Tourian.

Without doing Mockballs, still fighting Spore Spawn, and other such things, I really hate to break it to you...

Radix's 1:37 will always hold that title.

No, because DVD's were not even thought of at the time I did it, and he could have simply said "screw off, I'm not converting that crap NBMB video".  Without someone to capture, and someone to upload, it wouldn't exist except as a tape/memory.  So Nate can make as much $ as he wants, for however long it still sells without any thought of giving me money in return.

As for the extras idea, yeah I thought that would be cool...but I really don't remember many bloopers that were still kept on the tapes, aside from two that pop-up.

saw that coming from a mile away.

i consider radix's run the "classic of sda," because it was what launched the other section of sda (which of course is now the entire site, in which the quake series is included). it was only hosted on my site for a brief period, and during that period, it got few downloads. prior to his run, i only hosted my own runs on m2k2, but it wasn't until your 1:00 in february of 2004 that the popularity of the speed running part of the site nuked my bandwidth and forced me to consider alternatives (rotating through games daily for the next two months and merging the speed run content with sda in may). i consider your 0:55 the direct successor to that run, so it inherits the title.

the 1:37 launched modern sda, but your 1:00 launched modern m2k2 and modern sda. imagine if i was still trying to mirror speed runs on m2k2 ...

edit: added a visual aid:

edit 2: decided this was a good place to post this permanently:

keep in mind that both of the above are for her 1:00, the predecessor of the 0:55. we can only assume that the 0:55 was even more popular due to its provocative final time.

I saw those from a lightyear away.  blahblahblah. I swear you probably burn those pictures on every dvd you make so you always have a backup of them.

I dunno..what were the actual #'s you had compared to Radix's #'s?
lol. as far as i know, no logs survive from that time (thank marie), no stats, either ... plus you would need to compare his run's first release downloads on sda with your combined first release downloads on m2k2 and sda. on top of all of that, lots of people didn't download radix's run just because they saw fileplanet and went running the other way, so you couldn't tell even if you had those numbers. i wasn't trying to justify calling your run so important with the numbers, anyway ... those were just the icing on the cake. the point is that your run pushed things forward.

great idea!! thanks! :D

I meant comparing my runs to each other dlwise, not mine and Radix's.
Time bomb set get out fast!
For my money, the most impressive Metroid run around is Dragondarch's 1% Fusion single-segment, not just for the quality but for the sheer chutzpah it took to even try that.  But Scarlet's 0:55 is amazing, no question.  It's not perfect -- I wince every time I see her miss the pre-Gravity Suit shinespark soooo narrowly -- but I've learned a lot from it, and it's probably my favourite run to re-watch.

Not doing Mockballs and the such was only for my competition with my brother...and since he has been redeployed to Iraq...the competition is now suspended...also he forfeit...so I won that...

Everything else I can do with practice...I just need to get used to getting through the room with the energy tank right after beating Phantoon (argh! gotta get used to turning of the high-jump boots and the decreased height and the lack of grappling...just need to get used to the timing) Mockball I have pretty much mastered...

I think what bothers me the most is having to save and then change my controls for the clean-up (the Crystal Flash needed to get to the super missile right after spore spawn)...that's the most annoying part...my controls don't allow for the Crystal Flash...and as of yet I have never actually done one...*sigh*

So there are only 3 things I need to get used to...the route itself...the lack of high-jump boots and grapple...and the Crystal Flash...once I get those three things down (route won't take long once I get the other two down) I will be able to speedrun that route...but think about it...I get a better time then most people (look at the speed run times on this board...1:20 for me...the only other time I have seen is 1:21...other then your's and all the other speedrunners who have a record...and that was with the route that you just called slow...although the other people may have done the same thing I did...hmm...that's a question that needs to be answered...)

Wow...I sound angry in that post...cause I am...I don't like being called less than other people even if it is true...and all you have done is further give me motivation to beat your run...although it will take a while...(I'm only 14 and I have school to deal with)....God I'm such a loser...

Edit: I swear on many occasions while watching Scarlet's run for the first time I felt like bursting into tears...both when it was perfect and when mistakes were made...my heart sunk everytime something bad happened...plus after it was done I wanted to strangle the first person I saw...:D...but after thinking about it...it's probably what made me want to perfect my skills...
No dude, we ain't saying yer stupid/less than others for not being able to beat it or trying or anything (I even tried myself a few days ago), but....Trying to beat this run IMO, would be like trying to get 0:48 on the NTSC fusion cart. I tried for months, doing lots of different runs, and I found a few new tricks in the process, but I didn't even get 0:49. I'm sure it's possible, (49) but trying for 0:48 (on the american version) would be just pointless.

In scarlets run, you may be able to tie it, and that would be amazing, but I don't think that ANYONE will be able to beat it, unless amazing new uber time saving tricks are found. We aren't saying that you aren't good enough, but that NOBODY is good enough. Hope you get what I'm saying, and that it maketh you feel better.

By the way, I'm 14 too (15 next month wewt!) and I think that pirate109 is the same age. So you ain't the only young speed runner. Also, that is a very nice time you got. My best is 2:51, and that was with 69%. I've never even gotten 100% in super. Well, have to go now, laters.
Roxinos:  Dude, I know that's how you're used to typing and all, but PLEASE reconsider the use of other forms of punctuation.  If not that, then at least please reduce the number of ellipses that you use.

On topic:  Scarlet's 1:00 100% will always have a special place for me as my favorite run, as it was the very first speedrun I had ever seen.  I didn't even know any of the tricks, and hadn't played Super Metroid in years before I saw it.  The last save I had before seeing it was a 2:04 glitchless run, though non non-SB because I had figured out the obvious ones on my own like spazer before Hi-jump, or early Wave.

I was pretty happy when I got my 1:21.  Of course, there's always room for improvement, as I know of several tricks I just can't do consistently yet, which costs me precious seconds here and there.

Hmm, I thought controls didn't matter when performing Crystal Flash?  Isn't it always the same buttons regardless of your control scheme?
