The screw attack can be accomplished without actually jumping.
To perform it:
- Fall off of a ledge (not too short) - As soon as you start to fall, press the jump button 3 times really quickly. This will initiate the screw attack. - After the screw attack animation starts, press the jump button again to start the first screw jump.
Note: If you are too late with the jump button, you won't be able to jump (just like the regular screw attack).
- The height of the jump is limited to the height you were before the screw attack animation begins.
