It's possible to negate the height Samus normally gains when Shinesparking by starting under a low overhang. Quickly tap A twice to Shinespark in this situation (if you hadn't Shine Charged, you would Spin Jump).

A Low Height Shinespark can also be accomplished by carefully hitting the A button just as Samus is about the hit the ground.

Examples of Low Height Shinesparks include the Escape Shinespark, Speed Tricks: AQA and Speed Tricks: AQA 2.
