Yet, another item you can acquire before facing Thardus! It's pretty easy to get the Ice Spreader, since all you need is a Power Bomb Expansion and you can get it as you usually do. The tricky part is getting a Power Bomb Expansion before facing Thardus.
To acquire the Power Bomb Expansion before facing Thardus, you'll need the Plasma Beam. Once you have it, head to Phendrana Drifts in the Ice Ruins West, jump around the room on top of the buildings and you will find a hole in the floor, covered in ice. Use the Plasma Beam on it to get a Power Bomb Expansion (before getting the main Power Bombs in Phazon Mines!). This will enable you to use a Power Bomb. You can now head back to Magmoor Caverns, go to Shore Tunnel and use your Power Bomb to break the glass and get the Ice Spreader!
