Bunny Hopping is a technique for maintaining momentum when landing on the ground after a jump or dash. The technique is similar to R-Jumping, only performed on the ground instead of in midair.
To perform a bunny hop out of a jump or dash: Begin holding R at any time in midair and try to face 90 degrees from the direction you are moving in. Just before you land on the ground, begin holding L. As soon as you hit the ground, jump, and release L immediately.
Additional info:
- The earlier you jump after landing, the more speed you will be able to maintain. The ideal bunny hop occurs exactly 1 frame after landing, but aiming for this can be risky since the hop will fail completely if you try to jump too early.
- Much like dashing, turning too much toward the direction you are moving will kill your momentum. In order to "bend" a bunny hop, it is best to use up/down on the control stick rather than turning in the direction you want to move.
Examples of Bunny Hopping include Speed Tricks: Twin Fires Tunnel.
